Intensive Training Program
The Robert J. Meyers,
Ph.D. & Associates, (RJM) Intensive Training Program in Community
Reinforcement Approach (CRA), Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach
(A-CRA) and Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) for providers
are described below.
Training Program is designed to help providers learn and sustain an evidenced
based treatment, while maintaining fidelity to the models.
Training and Therapist Certification
- Onsite training and supervision is
provided by Drs. Meyers, Smith and/or an associate on the following
schedule (or an appropriate variation)
- Initial 2.5 day training for all
participants and supervisors.
- Bi-monthly phone conference
(“coaching”) calls are conducted with supervisors and participants for
approximately a 6-month period of time.
- RJM associates review and discuss
ratings and give written feedback to therapists and supervisors on their
audio-taped sessions to ensure correct clinical implementation; each taped
session is given specific written feedback and some sessions are discussed
on the coaching calls.
- In order to be certified, each
participant member (including supervisors) must pass a minimum of eight
(8) procedures on the Procedural Checklist. It typically
requires each to submit approximately 10 -12 tapes to RJM & Associates
for review in order to obtain eight that reach the required skill level.
Agencies typically set time limits for their participants to become
certified (e.g., 1 year). This can be negotiated with RJM &
- Certified therapists can elect to
start the process of becoming a certified coder, supervisor, and trainer.
and/or Supervisor Requirements for CRA, A-CRA, or CRAFT
- Attend full training in the desired
treatment (CRA, A-CRA, or CRAFT).
- Become certified as a therapist in
the desired treatment before beginning the supervisor or coder
- Listen to and rate at least one
therapist tape per week using the rating form and criteria provided by RJM
and maintain 80% agreement with expert raters (from RJM & Associates)
for a minimum of 5 tapes.
- Supervisors also must have bi-weekly
supervision with their CRA, A-CRA, or CRAFT therapists. This can occur on-site,
or via Skype or a conference call. Regardless, the supervision sessions
must be taped so that they can be reviewed by RJM & Associates.
Written and verbal feedback on these sessions is provided.
Supervision can occur individually or in a group format.
- A minimum of 4 supervision
session tapes must be approved for final certification. In order to
